Pemangkin asid 12-tungstophosphoric yang disokong dengan montmorilonit telah disediakan dengan kaedah impregnasi basah. Pengesteran antara gliserol dengan asid laurik telah dijalankan dalam keadaan adanya pemangkin dan nitrogen dibekalkan secara berterusan untuk mengeluarkan air yang dihasil. Muatan pemangkin, suhu, dan nisbah molar bagi bahan tindak balas telah dimanipulasi untuk mendapat keadaan yang paling seesuai dan optimum untuk tindak balas esterifikasi tersebut. Keputusuan bagi penukaran gliserol, penghasilan dan pemilihan monolaurin telah dibincang. Dengan menggunakan 15%TPA/MONT dalam suhu 160°C dan nisbah molar bagi bahan tindak balas 1:4, penukaran gliserol dan penghasilan monolaurin adalah 79.4%.

12-tungstophosphoric acid supported by montmorillonite catalyst is prepared by wetness impregnation method. Glycerol and lauric acid were esterified in the presence of these catalysts and the continuous supply of nitrogen to remove water formed. Catalytic loading, temperature and molar ratio of reactants were manipulated to optimize the reaction condition for the esterification. The results of glycerol conversions, monolaurin yields and selectivity obtained are discussed. By using 15%TPA/MONT, at reaction condition of 160°C and molar ratio of 1:4, the conversion of glycerol and yield of monolaurin are both 79.4%.
