Susunan organ-organ tumbuhan dalam botani dikenali sebagai phyllotaxis. Keunikan susunan spiral phyllotaxis dalam organ-organ tumbuhan telah mengilhamkan jurutera-jurutera bahawa ia mesti mempunyai kelebihan yang tersirat disebalik penciptaan misteri ini. Dalam kajian ini, susunan spiral phyllotaxis telah diaplikasikan pada struktur spherical kubah yang berlapisan tunggal sebagai sistem struktur kubah yang baru berbanding dengan sistem konvensional. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji kesan atas struktur kubah yang berkombinasi dengan susunan spiral phyllotaxis dan mengkaji kelebihan struktur kubah susunan spiral phyllotaxis dengan struktur kubah susunan konvensional yang telah dipilih. Saiz struktur kubah spiral phyllotaxis telah ditentukan sebanyak 20 meter diameter dengan ketinggian 10 meter dan telah dimodelkan. Kubah berjalur dengan susunan konvensional telah dipilih sebagai kubah untuk membuat perbandingan dengan kubah spiral phyllotaxis. Analisis pengiraan telah dilaksanakan untuk mengenal pasti kesan yang akan berlaku pada struktur kubah spiral phyllotaxis apabila kubah menemui keadaan yang berbeza seperti beban simetri tegak, beban tidak simetri tegak dan beban angin. Melalui hasil analisis, didapati bahawa kubah spiral phyllotaxis mempunyai tahanan yang lebih tinggi terhadap pesongan daripada kubah berjalur bawah kes bebanan yang sama. Ini mungkin kerana susunan corak spiral phyllotaxis mempunyai kesan perembatan. Kesimpulannya, kajian ini menunjukkan bahawa kubah dengan susunan lingkaran corak phyllotaxis mempunyai kapasiti yang mencukupi untuk menahan kedua-dua beban menegak dan mendatar. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ The regular arrangement of the plant organs is botanically known as phyllotaxis. The unique arrangement of spiral phyllotaxis pattern in plant organs has inspired engineers that there must be hidden advantages behind such pattern. In this research, spiral phyllotaxis pattern has been adopted on spherical single layer dome structure as a new structural layout system and the results have been compared with conventional system. This research is aimed at studying the structural behavior of spherical single layer space frame with spiral phyllotaxis member arrangement pattern and to study the relative structural merit of spiral phyllotaxis member arrangement pattern over ribbed member arrangement pattern. A dome structure of 20 meter in diameter and 10 meter in height was modelled. Ribbed dome with conventional member arrangement pattern is selected as the regular dome compared to spiral phyllotatic dome. Computational analysis was carried out to determine the structural behaviour of dome with new proposed member arrangement pattern under the following loading conditions: symmetrical vertical loading, asymmetrical vertical loading and wind loading. From the analysis result, it has been found that spherical spiral phyllotatic dome model has higher resistance to deformation than ribbed dome model under similar loading cases due probably to the spiral pattern which provides a kind of bracing effect. As a conclusion, this study shows that dome with spiral phyllotaxis member arrangement pattern has sufficient capacity to resist both vertical and horizontal loading.
