In this undergraduate project, RFID technologies research had been taken out to design an effective RFID network system over existing system in USM Engineering Campus. Nowadays RFID implementation for a campus is still a new issue in Malaysia, we can be the pioneer on this. At the same time it is also a risk for us, because there are many unknown for this technology. Thus, many applications nowadays still need time to justify whether it brings positive return or negative. However, a good news is that its cost is decreasing rapidly each year. Hence, deep research on RFID technologies is very important to make success from this latest technology.
The locations discuss for this project include school, lecture hall, clinic, library, hostel, and guard house. Possible RFID applications are listed out, and the idea of implementation for RFID applications will be discussed. Building structure had been taken into consideration for the RFID network design. Analysis will be made to make the best usage of RFID system. Some of the benefits from RFID implementation are enhance campus and assets security, automatic database updated, improved data acquisition and identification, reduces the operation, paper work and costs of work, reduces the responsibility and the subjectivism, helps at removing the errors and losses, make the access control automatic reduced human intervention, reduced labor costs, anti-theft, reduce criminal, trace unknown vehicle, and have real-time information flow.
The RFID network system discusses in this report is just a 1st stage approach for RFID implementation, but this project is one of the important milestones to upgrade USM campus toward digital campus vision !
