___________________________________________________________________________________ Chemical cleaning on PVDF membrane which fouled by glycerin-rich solution (15 wt% glycerin and 0.01 g/l oleic acid) was studied. Experiments were conducted to analyze the influence of various cleaning conditions on cleaning efficiency such as types of cleaning agents, cleaning time and concentration of cleaning agent. Flux recovery was determined after membrane cleaning to investigate the cleaning efficiency. Furthermore, membrane characterization methods like contact angle measurement and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy were utilized to justify the results. NaOH was found to be the best cleaning agent used to clean the membrane fouled by glycerin-rich solution with 42.05% flux recovery achieved if compared to other cleaning agents with only less than 10.00% flux recovery achieved. Results also indicated the cleaning efficiency of NaOH solution increase with cleaning time. In addition, when concentration of NaOH solution was increased, the cleaning efficiency of NaOH solution increased as well. A significant increase in flux recovery was observed when concentration of NaOH solution used in chemical cleaning was increased from 0.050% to 0.100%. Flux recovery of 74.08% was attained for the usage of 0.100% of NaOH solution in cleaning process.
