_____________________________________________________________________________________ This thesis deals with the design and implementation of a single-ended input Gilbert cell mixer using Silterra’s 0.18μm CMOS technology for Wideband-Code Division Multiple Access (W-CDMA) applications. The mixer topology explored is a single-balanced mixer. A 2.14 GHz W-CDMA RF was mixed with an LO of 2.16 GHz, generating a 20MHz of IF for direct-conversion receiver application. Simulations were performed using the Cadence Spectre RF. Impedance matching at the input and output were used to obtain good 50Ω termination to achieve good S11 and S22. The integrated receiver simulation results, such as harmonic distortion, conversion gain, s-parameter, noise figure, input referred IP3 and 1 dB compression point are included in this thesis to show compliance of the design to the required specifications. The overall performance of the mixer is considered able to conform to the specifications for a mixer in W-CDMA systems, except for the IIP3 and power consumption. The simulated performance characteristics result in a power consumption of 12.5mW from a 1.8V supply, a conversion gain of 1.5dB, a noise figure of 8.4dB, 1 dB compression point of -11.8dBm and an input-referred 3rd-order intercept point (IIP3) of -1.8dBm.
