Single-stage led driver with power factor correction

Single-stage led driver with power factor correction / Nor Hafifa Zailan
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ LED lights have gained much popularity in recent years due to their certain attractive features which are longer life time, higher energy efficiency, higher reliability and eco-friendliness. Due to these features LED lamps are currently being employed in both residential and commercial lighting applications. The design and development of low cost LED drivers having ability of power factor correction are a hot topic for power electronics research nowadays. The aims of this study is to design a single-stage AC-DC converter of LED driver for low power lighting applications and to evaluate the operation and performance of the proposed single-stage LED driver. In this research work a single stage LED driver based on buck-boost converter topology is proposed and designed for low power LED lighting. The structure, operation, analysis and design of proposed single-stage LED driver is presented in detail in this thesis. To verify the effectiveness of proposed driver, first of all simulation of the designed driver circuit is carried out using PSpice software. Finally, a prototype is built to verify the accuracy and feasibility of the proposed LED driver. The driver is shown to have low THD of 21.9% and high PF of 0.99 at AC input voltage of 220 π‘‰π‘Ÿπ‘šπ‘ . Thus, the proposed LED driver is suitable for directly driving the LEDs for low power lighting applications. The efficiency of driver is measured to be 86.78% at rated AC input voltage of 220 π‘‰π‘Ÿπ‘šπ‘ .
