Exploring awareness towards building information modelling implementation in construction projects for sustainable infrastructure

Exploring awareness towards building information modelling implementation in construction projects for sustainable infrastructure / Sharmizar Abdul Aziz
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Many countries globally including Malaysia are starting to realize the significant benefits that Building Information Modelling (BIM) offers to construction industry. Therefore, the government has set to implement BIM by the year of 2016 in all construction projects in order to drive towards sustainable construction which underlines long term affordability, quality and efficiency. The intention of this research is to explore the awareness towards Building Information Modelling (BIM) implementation in construction projects for sustainable infrastructure. BIM elements are studied and categorised into five phases of construction activities including design phase, planning phase, feasibility phase, construction phase and operational phase. The opinions of the construction players, namely quantity surveyors, architects, consultants, and contractors, are taken in order to know the reality scenario in the construction industry regarding BIM implementation. In order to strengthen the findings, opinions by the BIM expertise in Malaysia are also taken through discussion and questionnaires. Then, in each phase, the BIM elements are factorised into three factors, which are time, quality and cost. This research ends with the most significance relationship between the design phase and construction phase elements by using the correlation statistical analysis by using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software.
