BS EN 60819-1:1996 is a British Standard that specifies the requirements for safety and performance of metal-enclosed switchgear and controlgear for rated voltages above 1 kV and up to and including 36 kV.
The standard covers metal-enclosed switchgear and controlgear that are designed for indoor or outdoor use in power distribution systems, such as in substations, power plants, and industrial facilities. It provides guidelines for the construction, performance, and testing of these devices, including requirements for aspects such as the enclosure, busbars, circuit breakers, and disconnectors.
BS EN 60819-1:1996 also provides information on the application of metal-enclosed switchgear and controlgear in power systems, including guidance on the selection and installation of these devices, as well as recommendations for the coordination of switchgear with other protective devices in the system.
The standard is intended for use by manufacturers, designers, and users of metal-enclosed switchgear and controlgear. It aims to ensure that these devices are safe, reliable, and perform their intended function in protecting power distribution systems from overcurrents, short-circuits, and other faults.
BS EN 60819-1:1996 has been superseded by BS EN 62271-200:2015 which is the latest version of the standard.
