A review on some aspects of smart grid

A review on some aspects of smart grid / Koong Gia Ing
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Aging of the power grid, inadequate to supply to both economic development and population growth, and outdated in many aspects of the grid system brings to the development of Smart Grid (SG). In this project, some aspect of SG is reviewed. It started with some studies on the development of the electrical grid in Southern California and Austin of United State, China and Malaysia. Then more detail topics about the SG which include the definition, unique features, components and consequences of the SG are analyzed and reviewed. The standards of SG for protection, control and monitoring are also investigated. The main goal of these standards is to establish interoperability of different components in the SG system and compatibility with existing standards. On top of that, some key technologies in SG such as smart sensors, smart meter and integrated communication technologies are included in the review. This thesis will provide the reader a better understanding on SG and its current technologies.
