Chemical hydrolysis for release of ferulic acid from Moringa oleifera seed pods

Chemical hydrolysis for release of ferulic acid from Moringa oleifera seed pods / Ooi Zi Shing
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ The process of M.oleifera seed pods alkaline hydrolysis to investigate the amount of ferulic acid (FA) content was investigated. The purpose of this work was to obtain optimum FA content in the extract at optimum extraction condition. The three variables investigated were NaOH concentration, hydrolysis time and solid to solvent ratio. Besides, the effectiveness of acidic and alkaline hydrolysis on M.oleifera was found that alkaline hydrolysis was more suitable for FA extraction from M.oleifera. The major bioactive compounds were found using GC-MS identification which are brucine N-oxide, brucine, methyl cholate, fluocinonide, bianthrone, feulic acid, cholestan-6-one, pirenzepine, quinine, lexacalcitol, cymarin, isodrin, hydrocortisone, spironolactone and naltrexone. The optimum condition for FA extraction were: 3 hours hydrolysis time, 1.25M NaOH concentration and 1:10 solid to solvent ratio.
