Keperluan dunia terhadap tenaga semakin mendapat perhatian. Sumber tenaga yang berterusan sangat diperlukan untuk memenuhi keperluan pada masa depan. Jumlah tenaga yang dihasilkan daripada sumber tenaga boleh diperbaharui harus ditingkatkan. Terdapat pelbagai sumber tenaga boleh diperbaharui yang digunakan di kebanyakan negara pada masa kini. Walaubagaimanapun, tiada negara yang menggunakan kilat sebagai sumber tenaga alternatif. Kilat merupakan fenomena yang sangat menakjubkan yang berlaku secara semulajadi dan mengandungi jumlah tenaga yang banyak. Dalam ujikaji ini, simulasi sistem impuls kilat dijalankan dengan menggunakan PSPICE. Objektif utama ujikaji ini adalah untuk menentukan keupayaan cahaya sebagai sumber tenaga boleh diperbaharui. Sistem impuls kilat secara amnya mengandungi arrestor, transformer dan bateri. Memandangkan kilat tidak boleh diwujudkan dalam PSPICE, ia direkabentuk menggunakan litar setara merujuk kepada IEC Standard 60060-1. Voltan tinggi daripada kilat kemudiannya diturunkan dengan menggunakan transformer yang mengandungi satu set rintangan untuk merendahkan arus yang tinggi melalui sistem. Kebolehan kilat sebagai sumber kuasa ditentukan melalui kajian terhadap perubahan varian yang berlaku pada bateri.

The world’s hunger for energy is a growing matter of concern. The people need to find a sustainable amount of energy to meet the world’s future needs and demands. The amount of energy generated from renewable energy sources need to be increased. Many types of renewable energy sources have been used in many countries today. However, there are still no country using lightning as an alternative energy source. Lightning is a very impressive phenomenon that occurs naturally and contained enormous amount of energy in a single stroke. This paper demonstrates the simulation of lightning impulse system using PSPICE software. The main objective is to determine the ability of lightning as energy source generated from renewable sources. The overall lightning impulse system consists of arrestor, transformer and a battery. Since lightning is not applicable in PSPICE, it is designed using equivalent circuit referring to IEC Standard 60060-1. The high voltage from lightning is then stepped down using transformer with a set of impedance to suppress high magnitude of current flow to the system. The ability of lightning as power source is determined through the study of the magnitude of changes variant appears on the battery.
