This study was carried out to relate the Maximum Dry Density (MDD) against other parameters namely Optimum Moisture Content (OMC), Mean Diameter (D50), Liquid Limit, (LL), Plastic Limit, (PL), Plasticity Index, (PI), Coefficient of Uniformity, (Cu) and Coefficient of Gradation, (Cc) of 33 laterites samples sourced from BandarBaharu, Kedah, Seberang Perai, Pulau Pinang, and Parit Buntar, Perak. The data were extracted from the repository of the School of Civil Engineering, USM, based on tests that have been carried out earlier. Five more samples were collected from Bandar Baharu, labeled as according to the soil group which are SC and SM was then tested for the same
parameters as earlier considered. The new data were combined with those of USM repository and used in the correlations. The tests carried out on the soil samples have included the Atterberg limits, sieve analyses, and modified proctor test. The correlations have been established by means of linear equations from regression analyses. Based on the correlations, the MDD appeared to bear a good correlation with the OMC with R2 equals to 0.836. The other correlations gave the following results that was best mentioned first: MDD vs PL (R2 = 0.419), MDD vs D50 (R2 = 0.306), MDD vs MDD vs Cu (R2 = 0.272), MDD vs PI (R2 = 0.137), MDD vs LL (R2 = 0.074) and MDD vs Cc (R2 = 0.020).The parameters were also correlated to the OMC and the following results were obtained, best mentioned first: OMC vs MDD (R2 = 0.487), OMC vs PL (R2 = 0.388), OMC vs Cu(R2 = 0.306), OMC vs D50 (R2 = 0.239), OMC vs LL (R2 = 0.187), OMC vs Cc (R2 =0.304) and OMC vs PI (R2 = 0.023).
