Penjerapan digunakan secara meluas untuk rawatan air sisa disebabkan ia merupakan satu proses yang murah dan berkesan. Sejenis penjerap bersalut baru yang dinamakan ‘Paintosorp’ yang diformulasi daripada bentonit, bahan pengikat dan pelarut telah dihasilkan untuk berfungsi sebagai pengingkir warna. Selain kecekapan penjerapan, nilai ekonomi dan praktikal lapisan penjerap juga bergantung kepada keupayaan penggunaan semula. Oleh itu, kajian ini menyiasat tentang kebolehlaksanaan pemulihan dengan pelarut, oksidatif dan haba Paintosorp yang tepu dengan Metilena biru (MB). Untuk pemulihan semula dengan pelarut, kebanyakan pelarut tidak berupaya untuk menyaherap pewarna daripada Paintosorp disebabkan ikatan adsorpsi kimia antara penjerap dengan bahan terjerap yang kuat. Asid asetik dan metil etil keton yang menunjukkan sedikit penyaherapan disebabkan kesan kelarutan dan kehidrofobikan. Masa pemulihan yang panjang dan suhu yang tinggi tidak meningkatkan kecekapan penyaherapan. Tambahan pula, perubahan pH tidak menunjukkan sebarang kesan terhadap proses penyaherapan. Pemulihan osidatif fenton juga tidak berupaya mengingkir pewarna daripada Paintosorp. Untuk pemulihan dengan haba, 500oC didapati sebagai suhu pemanasan optimum dengan kecekapanan permulihan sebanyak 45.8%. Kecekapan pemulihan yang rendah adalah disebabkan sisa karbon dan kehilangan bentonit. Pencirian Paintosorp selepas pemulihan dengan haba telah dinilai oleh FTIR and SEM. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Adsorption is widely used for wastewater treatment due to its low cost and high efficiency. A new adsorbent coating named ‘Paintosorp’ was formulated with bentonite, binder and solvent has been developed to function as colour removal. Apart from adsorption efficiency, the economic and practical value of this adsorbent layer also depends on its reusability. Hence, this study investigated on the feasibility of solvent, oxidative and thermal regeneration of Paintosorp saturated with methylene blue (MB). For solvent regeneration, most of the solvents could not desorb the dye from Paintsorp due to its strong chemisorption bonding between adsorbent and adsorbate. Only acetic acid and methyl ethyl ketone showed slight desorption due to solubility and hydrophobicity effect. Longer regeneration time and higher temperature did not improve the desorption efficiency. In addition, pH change did not show any effect on the desorption process. Oxidative fenton regeneration was also unable to remove the dye from Paintosorp. For thermal regeneration, 500oC was found to be the optimum heating temperature with 45.8% regeneration efficiency. The low regeneration efficiency could be due to presence of residual carbon and mass losses of bentonite. The characterization of Paintosorp after thermal regeneration has been evaluated by FTIR and SEM.
