Feasibility of anaerobic digestion for parit buntar wet market waste / Bibi Hasbi Ab Aziz
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ The food waste from wet market in Parit Buntar was treated by anaerobic digestion in mesophilic temperature which is 350C. The three different group of food waste were divided into a carbohydrate, protein and fat, and vegetable which is 45%, 30% and 25% respectively. Meanwhile, the digester was collected from the holding pond like Malpolm, United Oil Palm, Jelutong Sewage Treatment Plant and also at the Mini Biogas Power Plant in Usains, USM Main Campus. The average pH value of the seed was around 7-8 to support the production of biogas, except the seed taken from Malpolm which is less than 7. A different ration of food waste to inoculums was set up to investigate the performance of each ration. The stability and performance of the treatment in batch system was analyzed. The digester stability was evaluated based on parameter involved such as pH and alkalinity. Meanwhile, the digester performance was measured based on COD, total solid, volatile solid removal and methane content in biogas. Result from the experiment works show that there is methane inhibition happen in the digester since no methane gas was detected. Actually, the generation of methane was significantly depended on ration of food waste into seed. The highest biogas (mostly carbon dioxide) production that obtained in this study was found in the mixture 2 of run 3 which is about 4080 ml/day that use the seed taken from the United Oil Palm.
