Abstract This British Standard specifies the requirements and test methods for zinc oxide/eugenol (ZOE) cements and zinc oxide non-eugenol cements used in dentistry. It covers materials intended for use as: Temporary restoratives Cavity liners or bases Temporary cementing agents Impression pastes Root canal sealers or fillers (where applicable) The standard defines: Physical properties (e.g. setting time, compressive strength, film thickness) Performance criteria Packaging and labeling requirements Chemical composition and formulation guidelines This specification ensures safety, reliability, and clinical performance of these cements in dental practice.
