Penyingkiran gas karbon dioksida dalam penapisan gas asli merupakan satu-satunya proses berasaskan membran yang dipraktikkan secara besar-besaran dalam operasi. Walaupun penguasaan membran polymer berlaku dalam pemisahan CO2/CH4, had keseimbangan antara selectiviti dan kadar resapan menghalang prestasi pemisahan yang baik. Membran matrik bercampur boleh menawarkan peningkatan dramatik untuk mengatasi kelemahan ini. Walau bagaimanapun, keserasian yang lemah antara zeolite dengan membran polymer menghasilkan pembentukan lompang antara muka menyebabkan prestasi pemisahan gas-gas yang lemah. Dalam karya ini, 3 jenis silana telah dicadangkan untuk mengubah suai zeolite SAPO-44 sebelum diselitkan ke dalam asimetri polysulfone (PSf). 3 jenis silana yang terpilih adalah (3-aminopropyl)-diethoxysilane (APTES), (3-aminopropyl)-trimethoxysilane (APTMS) dan (3-aminopropyl)-methyl-diethoxysilane (APMDES). Struktur membran asimetri disediakan menggunakan kaedah songsangan fasa bagi meningkatkan kadar resapan. Perubahan dalam spektrum FTIR bagi membrane SAPO-44 yang diubahsuai dengan silana tertentu menandakan prestasi silana berjaya dicantum pada SAPO-44. Sudut sentuhan air dikaji untuk menentukan kehidrofilikan membran dan pallet untuk SAPO-44 yang diubahsuai dengan silana manakala analisis EDX dikaji untuk menentukan penyebaran SAPO-44 dan SAPO-44 yang diubahsuai dengan silana dalam membran matrik bercampur. Sifat-sifat pengangkutan gas dikaji dengan menggunakan ujian penyerapan gas tulen N2, CO2 dan CH4 untuk setiap membran. Prestasi sampel membran yang terbaik adalah PSF / SAPO-44TMS yang mempamerkan peningkatan CO2 / N2 dan CO2 / CH4 dengan selectiviti masing-masing 13.93 dan 12.60. Pengubahsuaian silana sesuai seperti PSf/SAPO-44TMS bukan sahaja mengurangkan penumpuan pengisi, malah peningkatan boleh dikaitkan dengan penyebaran yang baik SAPO-44 yang diubahsuai dengan silana. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Removal of CO2 in natural gas refining has currently been the only membrane based process practiced on a large scale operation. Despite the predominance of polymeric membranes in the CO2/CH4 separation, the trade off limitation in between membrane selectivity and permeability hinders a good separation performance of these membranes. Mixed matrix membranes can offer dramatic improvement to overcome this short coming. However, the poor compatibility between zeolite and polymeric matrix causes the formation of non-selective interfacial voids, leading to poor separation of gasses. In this work, 3 types of silanes were proposed to modify SAPO-44 zeolite before adding into asymmetric polysulfone (PSf) MMMs. The 3 silanes are (3-aminopropyl)-diethoxysilane (APTES), (3-aminopropyl)-trimethoxysilane (APTMS) and (3-aminopropyl)-methyl-diethoxysilane (APMDES). The asymmetric membrane structure was prepared using the phase inversion method in order to improve permeance. The changes in FTIR spectra of certain silane modified SAPO-44 zeolite samples signified that silane was successfully grafted onto SAPO-44. The water contact angle determines the hydrophilicity of the membranes and pallet for modified SAPO-44 zeolite while EDX analysis determined the dispersion of unmodified and modified SAPO-44 zeolite within the MMMs. The gas transport properties were investigated using pure gas permeation tests of N2, CO2 and CH4 for each membrane. The most optimum sample is PSf/SAPO-44TMS which exhibited improved CO2/N2 and CO2/CH4 selectivity of 13.93 and 12.60 respectively. Suitable silane modification such as PSf/SAPO-44TMS not only reduces filler agglomeration, the improvement could be related to the good dispersion of modified SAPO-44.
