Persepsi sesebuah kamera digital dan seseorang manusia adalah berbeza. Tahap sinar objek yang boleh diperhatikan oleh seorang manusia adalah lebih tinggi daripada sebuah kamera digital. Oleh itu, visual gambar-gambar digital yang ditangkap dengan menggunakan kamera adalah lebih rendah berbanding dengan pandangan manusia. Keterangan pada pemandangan malam ataupun dalam suasana gelap adalah sanggat rendah, sama ada pada bahagian-bahagian gambar yang keamatan cahayanya rendah atau bahagian-bahagian gambar yang mempunyai keamatan yang tinggi tidak boleh dilihat dengan jelas. Lantarannya, banyak kaedah peningkatan telah diperkenalkan supaya kualiti visual gambar-gambar ini dapat dipertingkatkan. Dalam projek ini, algoritma Multiple Windowed Inverse Sigmoid (MWIS) diperkenalkan dan pelaksanaan dilakukan untuk tujuan mempertingkatkan gambar-gambar digital pemandangan malam. Algoritma ini terbahagi kepada tiga bahagian utama, iaitu peningkatan keamatan cahaya secara adaptif, diikuti oleh peneguhan kontras dan pemulihan warna. Mula-mulanya, gambar ditukar kepada skala kelabu untuk mendapatkan nilai keamatan cahayanya. Kemudian, bahagian gambar dibahagikan kepada komponen keamatan dan kepantulan. Selepas itu, komponen keamatan diubahsuai dan komponen keamatan dan kepantulan digabung semula. Akhirnya, warna-warna dipulih pada gambar skala kelabu itu. Jadi, imej pemandangan malam yang mempunyai kualiti visual yang lebih tinggi dan keamatan cahaya yang lebih baik berbandingan dengan gambar asli yang diperolehi. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Perception of a digital camera and human is different. The level of object radiance that can be observed by a human is higher than a digital camera. Therefore, in photographing, the digital pictures which are captured by digital camera have lower visual compare to human view. At night scene or in dark environment, the illumination is poor. Either the low intensity regions or high intensity regions cannot be seen clearly. Therefore, many different enhancement methods have been introduced in order to improve the visual quality of these images. In this project, the algorithm of Multiple Windowed Inverse Sigmoid (MWIS) is introduced and implemented for the purpose of enhancing night scene digital pictures. The algorithm contains three main parts, which are adaptive intensity enhancement, followed by contrast enhancement and color restoration. At first, image is converted to gray scale in order to get the intensity image. Then, illumination estimation and reflectance extraction are carried on so that the illumination part can be modified since this is the only interest part to be considered. Next, illumination and reflectance parts are re-combined and contrast enhancement is applied because the contrast of the enhanced image is degraded. Finally, color is being restored back to the gray scale image. As a result, night scene image with more high visual quality and good illumination compare to the original image is obtained. So, this method is said to have the ability in enhancement for the images in the scene captured under non-uniform lighting condition and the resultant image can be more useful for further analysis.
