Response of kluyveromyces marxianus against osmotic stress kinetics, mechanism, and characterization during very high gravity bioethanol fermentation
Stress induced by ethanol accumulation is a fe ctor that inhibits cellular growth during fermentation and reduced ethanol yields. To determine the effect of ethanol during growth of K/uyveromyces marxianus, fermentation wus performed at 40°C, 150 rpm for 72 h, in the presence of various ethanol concontrntions (5 - 25 % (v/v)). Under the conditions tested, maximum bioethanol yield at 0 &08 g/g ± 0.022 was obtained when 10 % (v/v) of ethanol was tested.
