The following document is adopted as ISO/IEC International Standard 7501-1:1991: - International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Doc 9303/2 Machine Readable Passports, Section III. Technical Specifications. This International Standard specifies the form and provides guidance on the construction of machine readable passports, in particular in relation to the sections of the document containing details of the holder in a form which is both visible and machine readable. It is based on a standard established by the International Civil Aviation Organization Doc 9303/2. This International Standard is intended for use in all applications relating to machine readable passports. ICAO Doc 9303/2 is maintained by a Technical Advisory Group on Machine Readable Travel Documents (TAG/MRTD). ISO/IEC JTC1 has provided liaison during the TAG/MRTD meetings on Doc 9303/2 and considered the technical specifications to which the endorsement notice applies. Information on the TAG/MRTD for ICAO Doc 9303/2 may be obtained on application to the Secretary General, International Civil Aviation Organization, 1000 Sherbrooke Street West, Montreal, Quebec, Canada H3A 2R2.
