Fabrication of 5.8 ghz bandstop filter using complementary split ring resonator array /Nor Ta’an Abdul Aziz
___________________________________________________________________________________ Size miniaturization of microwave filters is highly desirable in today’s rapid changing of communication world. For this project, a complementary split ring resonators (CSRR) coupled to planar transmission line is investigated. The electromagnetic behavior of these elements as well as their coupling to the host transmission line, are studied. In this design, a simple of 50 Ω microstrip line is used to be loaded with the CSRRs and a compact stop-band filter had been obtained. There are some characteristics of the stop-band of this filter had been studied and analyzed. The characteristics of this filter that been analyzed include their bandwidth, insertion losses, return losses and the desired center frequency which is at 5.8 GHz. This project is accompanied by the simulations and measurements processed. In this project, a 50 Ω of microstrip line transmission coupled with 5 arrays of CSRRs was design and fabricated. The design and simulation process had been made using the CST Studio Suite software. The fabrication processed is done at the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) lab. Next, the product had been tested and measured the scattering parameters (s-parameters) using a network analyzer. The results obtained had been saved and compared with the results that obtained from the simulation processed using the software. For the return losses, the results obtained for both simulation and measurement are -1dB and -2dB respectively. The insertion losses results are -45dB and -36dB respectively.
