Saban tahun, bahan buangan telah dihasilkan dalam kuantiti yang besar dan agensi kerajaan telah menghabiskan banyak wang dan sumber untuk melupuskan bahan buangan tersebut. Usaha yang serius telah dilaksanakan untuk menggunakan atau mengitar semula bahan buangan untuk tujuan lain seperti pembinaan jalan raya. Sanga keluli adalah sejenis bahan buangan yang dicadangkan untuk menggantikan agregat konvensional dalam pembinaan jalan raya. Sanga keluli menunjukkan sifat kejuruteraan dan mekanikal yang amat sesuai untuk digunakan sebagai bahan turapan jalan raya. Di samping itu, campuran asfat bersuhu sederhana adalah teknologi yang dapat mengekalkan kelestarian alam sekitar. Dalam kajian ini, sifat kejuruteraan dan kesan pergabungan penuaan dan kelembapan ke atas sanga keluli campuran asfat bersuhu sederhana telah dijalankan. Sanga keluli and granit telah diguna untuk menghasilkan campuran asfat. Prestasi kedua-dua campuran asfat ditentukan dan dibandingkan berdasarkan keputusan ujian kekuatan tegangan tak-langsung, modulus kenyal, rayapan dinamik dan separa lenturan bulat. Keputusan ujian menunjukkan bahawa penuaan meningkatkan kekuatan tegangan tak-langsung manakala kelembapan menunjukkan kesan yang sebaliknya. Berbanding dengan campuran yang disedia menggunakan granit, campuran sanga keluli lebih tahan kepada kelembapan. Di samping itu, kekukuhan dan kekuatan spesimen telah diuji dalam keadaan penuaan. Keputusan ujian menunjukkan bahawa campuran granit adalah bahan yang lebih keras dan mempunyai rintangan patah yang lebih tinggi berbanding dengan campuran sanga keluli. Struktur sarang yang wujud dalam sanga keluli berkemungkinan menjadi faktor penyebab bagi fenomena tersebut. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Every year, vast quantities of waste materials are produced and government agencies spent a lot of money and resources in disposing those waste materials. Serious efforts have been made to recycle or reuse these waste materials for other purposes, such as road construction. Steel slag is a type of waste materials proposed to replace conventional aggregates in road construction. Steel slag exhibits excellent engineering and mechanical properties that are very suitable to be used as road paving material. Utilizing steel slag could promote sustainable road construction and conserve the natural resources. In addition, warm mix asphalt is a technology that promotes environmental sustainability. In this study, the engineering properties and the combined effects of aging and moisture conditioning on steel slag incorporating warm mix asphalt were investigated. Two types of asphalt mixtures were produced with steel slag and granite. The performance of both asphalt mixtures were determined and compared through indirect tensile strength (ITS), resilient modulus, dynamic creep and semi circular bending tests. The results proved that aging increases the ITS while moisture conditioning resulted in the opposite effect. Compared to granite WMA, steel slag WMA was more resistant to moisture conditioning. In addition, the stiffness and strength of the specimens were tested in unaged and aged conditions. The test results showed that asphalt mixtures incorporating granite was stiffer and exhibited higher fracture toughness in compared to mixture with steel slag. The honeycomb structures found in steel slag could be a possible reason for the phenomenon.
