The purpose of this part of DD 238 is to define the service provided to the FAS (Fieldbus Access Sublayer) and external management agents such as SM (System Management) at the boundary between those layers and the DD 238 Data Link Layer. The Fieldbus Data Link service definitions in this document are a subset of the services defined in the IEC Data Link layer. This document describes the services and parameters for those services, which are used by the DD 238 FAS and SM. Only the summary of the services used by the DD 238 subset are specified in this document. The behavior of the service is the same as defined in the IEC Data Link Layer, unless specified otherwise. Therefore, it is necessary to read the IEC Data Link Layer for the full specifications of the services. The definition and of service primitives and the parameters used in the services in this document are for the purpose of describing the behavior of Data Link Layer as presented to its user. The purpose is not to define any implementation interface. DD 238: Part 3 : 1996 The clause numbers in this document match the clause numbers of IEC/CDV 1158-3 for ease of reading. Therefore, some of the clause numbers in this document are missing.
