Kegagalan struktur bumbung semasa hujan lebat adalah fenomena biasa untuk struktur bumbung. Sepanjang tahun ini, terdapat beberapa kes yang berkaitan dengan kegagalan struktur bumbung yang disebabkan oleh pukulan angin. Secara umumnya, di Malaysia kebanyakan rekabentuk bumbung tidak dianggap beban angin yang bertindak sebagai beban tekanan kepada struktur bumbung terutamanya bagi bangunan yang rendah dan rumah kediaman. Oleh itu, ia adalah penting untuk mempertimbangkan bahan yang sesuai dan teknik sambungan bagi struktur bumbung untuk memberikan lebih kestabilan dan mengelakkan kegagalan struktur. Dua jenis sambungan untuk dianalisis; sambungan antara gulung dan kasau dan sambungan antara gulung dan kepingan bumbung. Data kelajuan angin diambil di lima tempat yang berbeza di kawasan kajian. Untuk hasil yang lebih konservatif, nilai maksimum kelajuan angin diambil sebagai rujukan untuk mengira daya dan nilai kelajuan angin tersebut adalah 53.7 km/j. Oleh kerana aspek yang berbeza dari segi sambungan tersebut, daya tujah angin ditentukan. Nilai daya tujah berdasarkan kelajuan angin di tempat kawasan kajian dibandingkan dengan nilai daya tujah yang direkod mengikut eksperimen yang telah dijalankan. Keputusan ini tertakluk kepada bahan yang digunakan dalam keadaan baik serta rekabentuk struktur yang baik. Nilai daya kegagalan dicatatkan pada jarak 850 mm. Oleh itu, rekabentuk terbaik bagi sambungan antara gulung dan kepingan atap adalah jarak 850mm kerana nilai daya kegagalannya lebih tinggi berbanding dengan yang lain dan epingan atap yang sesuai adalah zink. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Roof failure due to uplifting during rainstorm is a common phenomenon for roof structures. Throughout these years, there are some cases that related to the failure of the roof structure due to the wind blow. Conventionally, in Malaysia most of the roof design is not considered wind load acting as a pressure load to the roof structures especially for low rise building and residential houses. Hence, it is important to consider a suitable material and connection techniques for roof structure to give more stability and avoid the structural failure. Two types of the connection are to be analyzed; the connection between purlin and rafter and connection between purlin and roof sheeting. The data of wind speed are taken at five different places of the study area. For a more conservative result, the maximum value of wind speed is taken as a reference to calculate the uplift force and the value of wind speed is 53.7 km/h. Due to different aspects of this type of connection, the wind uplifting force will be determined. The calculated resulting forces transferred at different connection points were compared with the experimental results obtained from laboratory testing. This result is valid when the proper used of selected material and all the structures are properly design. The highest value of failure force recorded at spacing 850 mm. Therefore, the best design for the connection between purlin and roof sheeting is at spacing 850mm because of the failure force value is higher than the others and the suitable type of roof sheathing for the rural roofing is zinc.
