_________________________________________________________________________________________ This project is to design a portable blood pressure sensor. Blood pressure is given in two terms, systolic and diastolic. Systolic is known as the highest value of the blood pressure, which is measured by the point where the pulse/oscillations are first apparent. While on the other hand diastolic is known as the lowest value of the blood pressure where the pulse/oscillations are no longer recorded. There are two main ways to measure blood pressure, one is being invasive and the other is being non-invasive. Non-invasive monitoring is just the opposite of the invasive method. Non-invasive is the process by which insertion of equipment through the skin is not needed. Oscillometric method is one of the techniques developed for the sole purpose of applying pressure to ones artery by exterior means. This project is using Oscillometric method and consists of three main parts: an external hardware, an analog circuit and a microcontroller. The pressure sensor senses the pressure inside the arm cuff and analog circuit converts the pressure values into readable and usable analog waveforms. The microcontroller then samples these waveforms and performs analog-to-digital conversion. The ADC is for the means of further calculations. Besides, the microcontroller also controls the operation of the button and LCD display. The overall design of this device is small, light and portable.
