________________________________________________________________________________________ The process of acquiring the energy surrounding a system and converting it into usable electrical energy is termed power harvesting. In the recent years, there has been a surge of research in the area of power harvesting. The increase in research interest has been brought on by the modern advances in wireless technology and low power electronics such as microelectromechanical systems (MEMS). Raindrop is one of the unexplored sources of energy in nature. This research focuses on energy harvesting from the raindrop energy in order to generate low energy which may be suitable to be used in microsystem applications. To date, a very limited number of researchers have conducted research on energy harvesting from raindrop energy. It would be very beneficial if this abundant source, yet potential energy resource can be harvested. Since the research on this specific area is still very limited, discussions are made based on previous research work and some preliminary analysis. The preliminary results showed that the raindrop is potential to be utilized in energy harvesting. Although the output is very limited, yet it could be applied in micropower application for example micro-devices and wireless devices. This report focuses on investigation the theoretical aspects of the possibility of harvesting raindrop energy. It also studied on suitability of the piezoelectric materials which is piezoelectric PVDF in the proposed research study and the effect of different raindrop sizes and material on the energy produced. Finally, to make recommendation on a complete theoretical energy harvesting system circuitry based on the proposed concept is forwarded.
