Peningkatan permintaan di ruangan bawah tanah menyebabkan kesesakan teruk di stesen Transit Aliran Ringan (LRT). Kemudahan yang disediakan kemungkinan besar tidak dapat menampung populasi penduduk di masa hadapan. Malangnya, kajian mengenai laluan pejalan kaki di kawasan bawah tanah yang telah dijalankan di Malaysia adalah terhad. Oleh itu, kajian mengenai pejalan kaki di kawasan bawah tanah amatlah diperlukan untuk perancangan dan penambahbaikan reka bentuk kemudahan serta penting untuk perancangan pemindahan semasa berlakunya kecemasan. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengenal pasti ciri-ciri pejalan kaki sewaktu berjalan di tangga atau eskalator dan untuk menganalisis hubungan kelajuan-aliran-ketumpatan pejalan kaki di kemudahan yang terdapat di Stesen LRT bawah tanah. Kajian video kamera telah dijalankan di Stesen LRT KLCC, Malaysia untuk mengumpul maklumat yang relevan mengenai ciri-ciri pejalan kaki semasa berjalan di tangga dan eskalator. Pengiraan pejalan kaki telah dilakukan melalui rakaman kamera video yang telah direkod dan kemudian dianalisis untuk mendapatkan kelajuan pejalan kaki, aliran dan ketumpatan di tangga dan eskalator. Hasil kajian telah dibentangkan dalam tiga jenis graf termasuk hubungan laju-ketumpatan dan hubungan aliran-ketumpatan untuk tangga dan escalator serta hubungan aliran-laju untuk kedua-dua eskalator dan tangga. Hasil daripada kajian ini penting untuk kajian mengenai aliran pejalan kaki di masa hadapan dan untuk perancangan yang terbaik untuk kemudahan-kemudahan pejalan kaki terutamanya di Malaysia. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ The increasing demand on underground spaces had caused severe congestion in Light Rail Transit (LRT) stations. The facilities provided might not be enough for the future population due to the excessive flow. Unfortunately, limited study was done regarding the pedestrian in underground spaces in Malaysia. Thus, more study of pedestrian in underground spaces is required for planning and design of facilities as well as for the evacuation planning during emergency. This study aims to identify the pedestrian walking characteristics and to analyze the pedestrian speed-flow-density relationship at vertical facilities in underground train station. Video camera surveys were carried out in KLCC LRT Station, Malaysia to collect relevant data regarding pedestrian walking characteristics in vertical facilities including stairway and escalator. Pedestrian counting was done through the video camera recording and then was analyzed to get pedestrian speed, flow and density in vertical facilities. The results were presented in three types of graphs including speed-density and flow-density relationship for stairway and speed-flow relationship for both escalator and stairway. The findings from this study will be useful for future study on pedestrian flow and better planning of facilities for pedestrian especially in Malaysia.
