Development of a lightweight portable water sampler for various water bodies / Azura Abdul Rahman
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ The objective of this research is to present an optimal design and preliminary test result of a simple portable water sampler that work based on air pressure principle and specification that can match with any purposes of water sampling either for water surface or groundwater. The new innovation of portable water sampler ALLi portable water sampler is a small device within 290 mm x 85 mm dimension of cylindrical shape that comes in simple design with low cost and affordable. This device is designed to collect 2.0 L of water samples. With the combination of buoyancy and drag force principle, this device able to collect sample at various depth up to 20 meters depth. Comes with various bottom part, so that user able to choose the weight to suit the water velocity of their sampling point. The idea behind this device is to provide an easy method especially for individual students and researchers to collect liquid samples from various resources since this device can be operated individually in its simple way and light weight. User able to indicate the flow of sound through the flexible PU tube. With the air control valve at the end of the tube, the air pressure inside the cylinder can be control to allow samples to be taken at desired depth. Instead of providing a simple operation, this device is designed to provide high quality of water sample collection with the application of specific material- chemical compatibility which would allow this device to be use for sampling at both organic and inorganic liquid. Moreover, the usage of this material as the main casing may help reduce and minimise the effect of surrounding atmosphere on the samples and so with the contact of foreign material which is indirectly will maintained the originality of the sample. Easy, simple and reasonable are the perfect words combination to describe this portable water sampler.
