Abstract BS EN 60870-6-502:1996 is a British Standard that specifies the communication protocols for telecontrol systems used in the monitoring and control of heat supply systems. It is part of the IEC 60870-6 series of standards for telecontrol systems. This standard defines the transmission protocols for use in the communication between the control system and the remote terminal units (RTUs) or intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) that are used to monitor and control the heat supply system. Specifically, it defines the protocols for communication over a serial data network, such as a RS-232 or RS-485 link. The BS EN 60870-6-502 standard is designed to provide a reliable and efficient means of communication between the control system and the remote devices. It specifies the structure of the data transmitted, as well as the procedures for initiating, maintaining, and terminating communication.
