Motion detection and surveillance system for moving camera using fpga_Ngan Wei Han_E3_2013_NI
___________________________________________________________________________________ For the past few years, video surveillance systems play a very important role in reducing crime rates. More and more people feel the need to implement video surveillance systems in their home due to the increase of crime such as stealing, robbing, kidnapping and so on. However, there are some disadvantages in such video surveillance systems because the viewing area for the cameras is limited. Moreover, cameras which can detect the motion are few. Most of the cameras tend to record the video of a certain area without detecting any motion in that particular area. A motion detection camera would benefit the user without have to view the monitor often. For this reason, this study has focused on a video surveillance system which is able to inspect a large portion of area and detect motion. The project uses the Altera field-programmable gate array (FPGA) DE2-115 Board and digital servo motors as project platform. The project platform is interfaced using the Quartus II 12.1 Web Edition. Frame differencing is used to detect motion. The image captured used for the motion detection is stored in the static random access memories (SRAM) of the FPGA board. A camera platform is built to support the digital servo motors which hold the camera in place as well as to support the FPGA board device connected to the camera. In order to increase the field of view of the camera, two digital servo motors are used to move the camera vertically and horizontally with varying degrees which can be adjusted according to the user’s preference. If there is motion detected, the camera will be stopped in that particular position and its status on the liquid crystal display (LCD) screen will be updated. The camera platform has been tried and tested on the lab and it manages to detect motion at 180 degree of view area. However, there is some certain constraint on lightning condition due to the noise on the extension between the cameras with the FPGA board. This project will give a false result when the environment is bright.
