BS EN 60809:1996 is a British Standard that specifies the methods for the measurement of sound pressure levels in air, in the vicinity of noise sources.
The standard provides guidelines for the measurement of sound pressure levels in a wide range of environments, including industrial facilities, transportation systems, and residential areas. It covers both steady-state and impulsive noise sources and provides recommendations for the selection and use of sound level meters and microphones.
BS EN 60809:1996 also includes procedures for the evaluation of sound pressure levels, including the determination of sound power levels and sound attenuation in the environment. It also provides guidance on the interpretation and reporting of measurement results.
The standard is intended for use by acousticians, acoustical consultants, engineers, and other professionals involved in the assessment and control of environmental noise. It aims to ensure that sound pressure levels are measured consistently and accurately, and that noise sources are evaluated and controlled effectively to minimize their impact on the environment and human health.
