BS EN 60691:1996 is a European standard titled "High-voltage test techniques - Partial discharge measurements". This standard specifies the general principles and procedures for measuring partial discharges in electrical equipment using high-voltage test techniques. It provides guidance on the measurement and interpretation of partial discharge data, and also covers the requirements for test equipment and instrumentation used for the measurement of partial discharges. Partial discharge is a phenomenon that occurs in electrical insulation materials and is considered to be an indication of the quality of the insulation. Partial discharge measurements are used to assess the condition of electrical equipment, such as cables, transformers, and switchgear, and to detect and diagnose any potential faults or defects. The standard applies to partial discharge measurements carried out on equipment operating at voltage levels above 1 kV and up to and including 800 kV. It is intended to be used by manufacturers, testing laboratories, and other organizations involved in the testing and evaluation of electrical equipment. Overall, the purpose of this standard is to ensure that partial discharge measurements are carried out in a consistent and reliable manner, and to provide a basis for the interpretation and analysis of partial discharge data.
