Zeolit SAPO-34 merupakan pengisi berliang yang sesuai digunakan dalam membran matriks campuran(MMMs) untuk aplikasi pemisahan CO2 kerana ia mempunyai afiniti yang kuat terhadap CO2 dan saiz liangnya (0.38 nm) agak serupa dengan saiz pelbagai gas dalam gas asli. Walaubagaimanapun, ketidakselarasian antara zeolit dan matriks polimer menyebabkan pembentukan lowong yang secara tidak langsung akan menjejaskan proses pemisahan gas. 3-aminopropiltrimetoksi silana(APMS) telah dicadangkan dalam kajian ini demi mengubahsuaikan zeolit SAPO-34 sebelum menambahkannya ke dalam polisulfon asimetri MMMs melalui kaedah kesongsangan fasa kering-basah. Selain itu, kesan penggunaan pelarut yang berbeza (etanol dan isopropanol) dalam reaksi cantuman juga dikaji. Perubahan spektrum FTIR dalam kedua-dua sampel yang telah diubahsuai menunjukkan lebih banyak silana telah dicantumkan dalam sampel yang menggunakan etanol sebagai pelarut. Analisis EDX menunjukkan penyebaran zeolit SAPO-34 dalam matriks PSf lebih serata selepas pengubahsuaian. Walaupun menunjukkan spektrum FTIR dan morfologi yang sama, tetapi hanya PSf/SAPO-34E MMMs yang menunjukkan peningkatan jelas dari aspek selektiviti dan ketelapan gas CO2. Membran ini mencapai selektiviti CO2/N2 yang tertinggi (28.66), selektiviti CO2/CH4 (30.07) dan ketelapan gas CO2 yang memuaskan (706.3GPU).Peningkatan prestasi PSf/SAPO-34E MMMs ini disebabkan oleh pengunaan APMS dapat mengurangkan masalah pembentukan lompang dan aglomerasi pengisi berliang. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ SAPO-34 zeolite is the ideal porous filler in mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) for CO2 separation because it has strong affinity towards CO2 and pore size (0.38 nm) which is similar to the molecular sizes of various gases in natural gas. However, the poor compatibility between zeolite and polymeric matrix causes the formation of non-selective interfacial voids, leading to poor separation of gases. In this work, 3-aminopropyl trimethoxy silane (APMS) was proposed to modify SAPO-34 zeolite before adding into asymmetric polysulfone (PSf) MMMs prepared via dry-wet phase inversion. Besides that, the effects of different solvents (ethanol or isopropanol) in grafting reaction were studied. The changes in FTIR spectra of both modified SAPO-34 zeolite samples signified that more silane molecules were grafted when ethanol was used. SAPO-34 zeolite dispersed evenly in PSf matrix after modification as shown in EDX analysis. Although showing similar FTIR spectra and morphology, a great improvement in CO2 selectivity and permeance was only shown by PSf/SAPO-34E MMMs with zeolite modified using APMS in ethanol. The highest CO2/N2 selectivity of 28.66, CO2/CH4 selectivity of 30.07 and a satisfactory CO2 permeance of 706.43 GPU were achieved. Besides the reduction of filler agglomeration, the improvement could be related to the diminished interfacial voids when SAPO-34 zeolite was modified using APMS in ethanol.
