Komunikasi cahaya (VLC) merupakan system komunikasi tanpa wayar yang menggunakan sumber cahaya untuk penghantaran data. Ia merupakan penyelesaian bagi permintaan tinggi terhadap kadar pindaan data yang tinggi. Projek ini memberi tumpuan kepada pemprosesan data untuk pemancar dan penerima VLC dengan menggunakan bahasa takrifan perkakasan (HDL) Verilog dan diprogramkan ke papan kawalan FPGA Altera DE2-115. Satu sistem penghantaran data mudah yang menghantar satu data input 6-bit telah dibina dengan suis sebagai input dan paparan kristal cecair (LCD) sebagai paparan output. Teknik modulasi Pemultipleksan Pembahagian Frekuensi Ortogonal (OFDM) digunakan dalam pembinaan pemancar dan penerima VLC kerana kemantapan terhadap gangguan pelbagai arah. Fasa pembinaan sistem VLC dibahagikan kepada pembinaan modul modulasi dan demodulasi OFDM, pembinaan pemancar dan penerima VLC, pelaksanaan dalam perkakasan serta penyegerakan sistem VLC dengan perkakasan litar pemancar LED dan penerima fotodiod. Quartus II digunakan sebagai alat perisian untuk mereka bentuk dan memprogramkan modul ke papan FPGA, MegaWizard Plug-In Manager digunakan untuk mencipta teras harta intelek (IP) dan SignalTap II Logic Analyzer digunakan untuk membuat simulasi atas papan kawalan. Bagi memastikan fungsi pemancar VLC dan penerima VLC, simulasi telah dibuat untuk setiap modul dan pemancar-penerima VLC dibina dan disahkan fungsinya. Beberapa ujian praktikal telah dibuat untuk sistem pengesahan dan ia terbukti penghantaran data dapat dilakukan antara dua papan FPGA melalui pendawaian tetapi dengan beberapa ketidaklengkapan bagi data yang diterima. Penyegerakan dengan perkakasan diuji, tetapi data yang diterima oleh penerima fotodiod tidak dapat diproses selanjutnya disebabkan masalah penyegerakan masa. Secara keseluruhannya, sistem VLC telah disahkan bahawa ia mampu menghantar satu aksara tunggal bagi satu penghantaran. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Visible light communication (VLC) is a new wireless communication that uses visible light source for data transmission. It is the solution to the high demands for higher data transfer rate. This project focuses on the data processing of VLC transmitter and receiver using Verilog HDL and programmed on Altera DE2-115 FPGA controller board. A simple data transmission system to transmit a 6-bit input data is built with switches as the inputs and liquid-crystal display (LCD) as the output display. Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) modulation technique is implemented in VLC transmitter and receiver due to its robustness to multipath interference. The development phase of VLC system is divided into development of OFDM modulator, OFDM demodulator, VLC transmitter, VLC receiver, hardware implementation and VLC system synchronization with hardware LED transmitter and photodiode receiver. Quartus II is used to design and program the modules into FPGA board, MegaWizard Plug-In Manager is used to create intellectual property (IP) cores and SignalTap II Logic Analyzer is used for on-board simulation. To test the functionality of VLC transmitter and receiver, simulation is done for each module and VLC transceiver is formed and validated. Several practical testing were done for system validation and it is proven that data transmission can be carried out between two FPGA boards through wiring but with some incomplete received data. The synchronization with hardware is tested, but the data received by the receiver is unable to be processed due to timing synchronization problem. Overall, the VLC system is proven that it is able to transmit a single character for one transmission.
