Kajian sistem rawatan penyentuh biologi berputar_Ng Ban Soon_A9_1995_NI
______________________________________________________________________________ The objective of this project is to evaluate the efiiciency of RBC treatment plant at Ipoh Old Town dan laboratory study on biomass development in new RBC system and factor effecting its efficiency. To carry out this study, the eOlciency removal rate of RBC is monitored. After some laboratory testing, the RBC at Ipoh Old fown is found to be ineftecient. The effluent did not meet the Standard B of Quality Environment Act 1974, The main cause is due to inadequate design and maintenance. The main design problems are, there is no equalization tank and primary sedimentation tank and no stages in the ^ current RBC unit. These will caused the flactuation in di.scharge and concentration. In order to overcome this problem, an equalization tank, primary sendimentation tank and stanging in RBC is proposed. Beside that a desk study was carried out to propose a '* f suitable location for RBC treatment plant in USM, KCP and it is found that the most suitable location for RBC in KCP is after the oxidation pond. The conclusion was made base on the basis design of the RBC which determine the cost of construction, maintenance and operation. New structure such as fine screening, equalization tank and ''' primary sendimentation tank can be ommited because the existing oxidation pond will take over their function. The RBC will function as tertiary treatment to improve the effluent quality. Study on biomass development was base on the BOD removal efficiency. This is because the efficiency of BOD removal depend upon the population of ^ biomass. From the results of the study, it is observed that the efficiency of BOD removal was linearly related to organic and hydraulic loading. The biomass development was very slow at initial stage but after 15 days of operation the rate of development was faster. The time used to develop the biomass in RBC media is expected to be dependent on the hydraulic and organic loading.
