Characterization and efficacy evaluation of modified collagen hydrogel with tethered nanocurcumin/Dr. Masrina Mohd Nadzir

Characterization and efficacy evaluation of modified collagen hydrogel with tethered nanocurcumin
corcumin; collagen; genipin
This project was conducted with the purposed of obtaining fundamentals data for developing wound dressing conjugated with corcumin. It consisted of five parts focusing on the fabrication of collagen based hydrogel scaffold, synthesis of nanocurcumin, conjugation of curcumin to scaffold, characterization of scaffold and in vitro study.Composite scaffolds were prodeced by mixing collagen with agar and chondrollin-4-sulfate. Nanocurcumins were synthesized by encapsulating curcumin in niosemes.which are vesicles produced using various combinations of non-ionic surfactants and additives. The conjugation of corcumin to scaffold was conductedvia diffusion method. Scaffold was also crosslinked with fructose and genipin to improve its mechanical strength. The developed scaffolds were characterized by swelling analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSG), texture analyzer, degradation study and in vitro analysis.
