Removal of water from acetone-water mixture using pervaporation membrane process

Removal of water from acetone-water mixture using pervaporation membrane process / Teng Wai Lun
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ The separation performance of the commercial ceramic membrane was studied for the removal of water from acetone-water mixture using pervaporation membrane process. The commercial ceramic membrane supplied by PERVATECH BV, The Netherland was used to investigate the interaction between process variables with the characteristic performance of ceramic membrane. The effects of feed temperature, feed composition and vacuum pressure on the membrane separation performance, which were the permeation flux and selectivity were studied by means of Design of Experiments (DOE) coupled with Response Surface Methodology (RSM). The Center Composite Design (CCD) was used to obtain the optimum process conditions. The results showed that an optimum permeation flux of 0.628 kg/m2.h and optimum selectivity of 3308.05 can be obtained at feed temperature of 60 °C, vacuum pressure of 11 torr and acetone feed concentration of 98 wt%.
