Media berliang merupakan salah satu komponen yang digunakan dalam Reka Bentuk Saliran Bandar (SUDS). Media berliang ini adalah effisien kerana ia dapat mengurangkan aliran puncak dengan membenarkan air larian permukaan menyusup ke dalam tanah serta dapat menambahbaik kualiti air dengan menapis bahan polusi fizikal. Media berliang biasanya digunakan di tempat letak kereta, taman dan laluan pejalan kaki. Objektif utama kajian ini adalah untuk menyiasat ciri-ciri aliran di atas media berliang. Ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan kaedah eksperimen fizikal dengan model aliran empangan pecah. Parameter seperti kedalaman awal takungan, Ho dan keliangan media berliang, ø dimanipulasikan dalam eksperimen. Eksperimen ini dijalankan dalam empat kes dengan lima ulangan bagi setiap kes. Setiap kes terdiri daripada keliangan yang berbeza, ø iaitu 0.227 dan 0.286 dan kedalaman awal yang berbeza takungan, Ho iaitu 5cm dan 10cm. Perbincangan boleh dibuat dengan mengkaji hubungan antara panjang aliran merebank dengan masa. Kajian ini mendapati bahawa aliran di arah longitudinal dan lateral bergantung kepada kedalaman air di dalam takungan dan juga keliangan media. Penemuan daripada kajian ini akan memberikan pemahaman yang lebih baik tentang aliran ke atas media berliang dan seterusnya menyumbang kepada pembangunan Reka Bentuk Saliran Bandar (SUDS). _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Porous media is the one of the most used components of Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS). Porous media is effective in reducing peak discharge because it allows water to infiltrate into the ground and improve the quality of water by removing physical pollutants. Porous media is usually used in car parks, garden and pedestrian walkway. This study is carried out with the main objective of investigating the characteristics of flow over porous media. This is done by carrying out a physical experimental using method of dam-break flow. Parameters such as initial depth of reservoir, Ho and the porosity of the porous media, ø are manipulated. The experiments were conducted in four cases with five repetitions for each case. Each case comprises of different porosity, ø of 0.227 and 0.286 and different initial depth of reservoir, Ho of 5cm and 10cm. Deductions were made from studying the relationship between the lengths of spreading with time. It was found that the flow propagation in longitudinal and spreading in lateral directions depends on the reservoir depth and porosity of the media. The findings from this study will provide better understanding of flow over porous media and thus contribute to the development of Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS).
