Investigation of human heat energy harvesting from different human body parts

Investigation of human heat energy harvesting from different human body parts / Moo Chee Gen
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Human body is a thermal energy source as long as a person is alive. This thermal energy can be harvested and converted to voltage. In this research, thermal energy from five different human body parts are harvested using thermoelectric module and converted to electrical energy. The voltage produced is as low as millivolts, thus, a voltage booster circuit is proposed to boost up the voltage in order to power up a LED. Several factors are investigated in this research on their effects on the voltage produced. These factors are the ambient temperature, the presence of a heat sink and the human movements carried out. At the end of this research, it is found that the most voltage is produced by thermoelectric module from human palm. The usage of a heat sink together with a thermoelectric module helped to increase the voltage produced. The lower the ambient temperature, the larger the temperature difference between the ambient and the human body, thus the more voltage is produced by thermoelectric module. Lastly, the more vigorous the human movement, the more voltage is produced. In this research, among sitting (at rest), walking and running, the most voltage is produced after running. In conclusion, the most voltage is produced from human palm using thermoelectric module with heat sink after running at night, which is 118.6 mV.
