Synthesis and characterization of polysulfonemetal-organic frameworks (MOFs) membrane for carbon dioxide (Co2) gas separation

Synthesis and characterization of polysulfonemetal-organic frameworks (MOFs) membrane for carbon dioxide (Co2) gas separation / Nursyuhada Abu Salim
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ For gas separation method, the membrane technology is one of the development methods nowadays. There are many membranes that be produced to separated the gases such as porous membrane, dense membrane and inorganic membranes. Although the membranes method already being introduced, however it still needs more improvement to get maximum result in the separation of the gas such as further development in the mixed matrix membranes (MMMs). In this study, polysulfone (PSf) polymer is mixed with the filler that are MOFs to form mixed matrix membranes for CO2 gas separation and being compared with other membranes. The asymmetric structure was prepared by using dry-wet phase inversion method with varies the evaporation rate that are 60s and 90 s for all the membranes samples for gas permeability and selectivity performances. The effects of the filler loading on the membranes characteristics were studied using SEM, EDX and TGA. Besides that, the membranes were also tested in the pure gas permeation of CO2, CH4 and N2. The CO2/CH4 selectivity and CO2/N2 selectivity for all the membranes are higher at 90s compared to 60s.
