In this research, the inhibition of the corrosion of aluminium in 1.0 M hydrochloric acid solution by the leaves extract of Moringa oleifera has been studied using weight loss method. The effect of temperature of acid, and extract concentration on the corrosion behavior of aluminium in 1.0 M HCl with addition of extract was also studied. Inhibition was found to increase with increasing concentration of the extract. Also, inhibition was found to decrease with increasing temperature of the acid. The adsorption of the extract on the aluminium surface obeyed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Values of inhibition efficiency calculated from weight loss are in good agreement. The Gibbs free energy for the inhibition process was calculated. The adsorbed film on aluminium surface containing M. oleifera leaves extract was also measured by Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GCMS) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). The results obtained revealed the compound responsible for the corrosion inhibition, which is quercetin compound, and this showed that the M. oleifera extract could serve as effective inhibitor of the corrosion of aluminium in hydrochloric acid media.
