Pada masa kini, teknologi automasi digunakan secara meluas dalam industri terutama dalam kawalan peralatan dan jentera. Faedah penggunaan teknologi automasi ialah ia dapat mengurangkan kos, mempertingkatkan kualiti dan menjimatkan tenaga dan bahan. Kawalan logik boleh aturcara (PLC) adalah salah satu teknologi automasi yang digunakan dalan sistem kawalan. PLC digunakan secara meluas di dalam industri terutamanya industri elektromekanik. PLC direka untuk menggantikan geganti sistem logik. Sebelum penggunaan PLC, sistem kawalan terdiri daripada geganti, pemasa dan penjujuk. Satu ketika sistem kawalan perlukan hampir ratusan atau ribuan geganti dan wayar sambungan. Masalah datang apabila sistem perlu diubah, jadi juruletrik terpaksa membuat sambungan semula antara geganti. Ini akan memerlukan masa yang lama dan tenaga manusia yang banyak. Selain itu, kos untuk penyelenggaran akan meningkat. Selepas penggunaan PLC, sistem kawalan menjadi lebih mesra pengguna. PLC diprogramkan melalui perisisan. Selalunya, program yang digunakan adalah gambarajah logik tangga. Gambarajah logik tangga adalah logik sistem yang dipindahkan dalam bentuk program. Tesis ini membincangkan tentang applikasi PLC dalam mengawal tiga fasa induksi motor. Set perkakasan pemula bintang delta dan kawalan arah induksi motor tiga fasa dilaksanakan. Penjelasan tentang perkakasan dan perisian dibincangkan dalam tesis ini. Fleksibiliti dan kebolehan kawalan cekap PLC membantu dalam pertumbuhan teknologi automasi. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Nowadays, the automation technology is widely used in industry especially in control the equipment and machinery. The benefit of using automation technology is,that it can reduce cost, improve quality and save energy and material. Programmable Logic Control (PLC) is one of the automation technologies in control system. PLC is widely used in industry especially electromechanical industries. PLC is designed to replace relay logic system. Before PLC, control system is consisting of relays, timer and sequencers. Sometimes, one control system needs almost hundreds or thousands relays and wires connection. The problem comes, when the systems need to be changed, electrician needs to rewire all the connections. This will need more time and more man power. Besides that, the cost for maintenance will be increased. After PLC is developed, the control system becomes user friendly. The PLC is programming through the software. Mostly, the program use is ladder diagram. Ladder diagram is logic system that is transferred to program form. This thesis discussed about the application of PLC in controlling three-phase induction motor. The hardware set up for three phase star delta starting and direction control of induction motor using PLC is implemented. The flexibility and efficient controllability of PLC helps in the growth of automation technology.
