Synergistic response of pogostemon cablin (blanco) benth cell suspension cultures to precursor feeding and elicitation towards the productions of patchouli alcohol /Dr. Khairiah Abd Karim
The individual and combined effects of precursor addition using cis-farnesol (CF) and elicitation using methyl jasmonate (MeJA), chitosan (CHI), yeast extract (YE) and Pycnoporous sanguineus (PS) were investigated to enhance the synthesis of patchouli alcohol (PA) in suspension cultures of Pogostomon cab/in (Blanco) Benth. Cultures added with CF and individual elicitation showed enhanced PA production up to 8 folds (267 mgL-1 in comparison to the control cultures (34.4 mgl- 1 The highest amount PA production (400 mg- l 1 was obtained in the cultures elicited with MeJA (100 1JM), while 1 cultures elicited with CHI (50 mg- l) showed a reduction of PA production after 5 days of elicitation. Meanwhile, the addition of YE ond PS showed negative results. The combination of CF and MeJA resulted in 20-fold incroment of PA production (610 mgl- 1 , showing the synergistic effect of these two production str 1tt•g1es
