This part of BS 7208 specifies the requirements and test methods for rigid contact lenses, including both:
Hard lenses (typically made from PMMA – polymethyl methacrylate), and
Rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses
It applies to lenses intended for daily wear or extended wear used for optical correction or therapeutic purposes.
The standard includes specifications for:
Material properties (e.g. optical clarity, biocompatibility)
Dimensional tolerances (e.g. diameter, base curve, thickness)
Surface quality and finish
Transmission and power accuracy
Mechanical integrity
Labelling, packaging, and marking requirements
