BS EN 597-1:1995 is a European standard that specifies safety requirements and test methods for mattresses and mattress pads intended for use in cribs and cradles. This standard applies to all types of mattresses and mattress pads designed for infants up to a maximum weight of 15 kg.
The standard includes requirements for the dimensions, firmness, and surface characteristics of mattresses and mattress pads, as well as requirements for the resistance to ignition, durability, and hygiene. It also specifies test methods for evaluating these characteristics.
BS EN 597-1:1995 is part of a series of standards that aim to ensure the safety of products intended for use by infants and young children. Compliance with this standard is voluntary, but manufacturers who wish to sell their products in the European Union must comply with the applicable safety standards.
