Prepation of mangosteen peel based active carbon from for removal of PB(II) / Mohamad Azzam Che Rahim
Kecekapan karbon aktif yang berasaskan kulit manggis(MPAC) sebagai bahan penjerap dalam penyingkiran ion plumbum(II) melalui proses penjerapan telah dikaji secara peringkat. MPAC di sediakan melalui kaedah pengkatifan secara fizikal dalam pengaliran gas karbon dioksida CO2 dibawah pendedahah gelombang mikro. Kaedah penyediaan secara optimum telah diperoleh melalui kaedah sambutan permukaan(KSP) dengan bantuan perisian Design Expert. Penyediaan MPAC berlaku secara optimum apabila bahan karbon mentah terdedah dalam keadaan faktor kuasa radiasi bernilai 449.03 watt selama 5.93 minit. MPAC yang dihasilkan dalam keadaan optimum mempunyai kecekapan penyingkiran sebanyak 84.24% dengan hasil dapatan akhir MPAC sebanyak 43.37%. Karbon aktif yang disediakan dinilai mengunakan SEM dan FTIR untuk mengkaji morfologi permukaan dan juga kumpulan berfungsi yang terdapat pada permukaan karbon aktif. Pemboleh ubah seperti kepekatan awal ion Plumbum(II) (25-300bpj), masa sentuhan(0-24 jam) dan suhu larutan telah dikaji untuk proses penjerapan. Didapati hubungkait kepekatan keseimbangan antara larutan dan permukaan penjerap dalam suhu yang tetap boleh dipadankan kedalam Model Freundlich. Manakala hubungkait kinetik penjerapan didapati sepadan dengan model pseudo-tertib kedua dalam penyingkiran ion plumbum (II). Hasil analisis termodinamik juga mendapati proses penjerapan adalah secara spontan dan berbalik dan sifat proses juga adalah endotermik. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Efficiency of mangosteen peel based activated carbon (MPAC) prepared via microwave irradiation and CO2 gasification material in removal of the Pb (II) ion was investigated in this study. Optimum preparation condition were obtained at radiation power factor of 449 watt for 5.93 minutes activation time by using response surface methodology. At this optimum conditions 84.24% removal efficiency with 43.371% final MPAC yield. Optimized MPAC shows heterogeneous pores structure with various functional groups on the active carbon surface. The adsorption equilibrium and adsorption kinetics follow Freundlich and pseudo-second order models respectively for removal of Pb (II) ion. Thermodynamic analysis result also found that the process is spontaneous and endothermic in nature.
