Linearity improvement in single ended low noise amplifier (lna) for w- cdma application _Lim See Leng_E3_2007_NI_875002016
_________________________________________________________________________________________ In wireless systems with WCDMA requirements, the low noise amplifier (LNA) design is critical because it should provide enough gain to the low power signals that arrive at the antenna, not degrade the signal-noise ratio, and be capable to sustain large signals with low distortion, low power dissipation and low noise figure. Due to the possible large interference signals at the input of the (LNA), this amplifier has to provide high linearity, thus preventing the intermodulation tones created by the interference signal from corrupting the carrier signal. This linearity improvement should not be at the expense of gain or noise figure (NF). This demands the use of linearization techniques implemented with minimal current overhead. This report describes a single ended nonlinearity cancellation low noise amplifier (LNA) for WCDMA applications. This topology was chosen as the focus of this project on enhancing the linearity performance of this LNA. The linear LNA was designed in a 0.18 um CMOS process with supply voltage of 1.8 V. A -12.28 dBm was achieved with a gain of 20.3 dB, noise figure of 2.2 dB and a power consumption of 6.3 mW. Hence, this LNA is capable of giving good linearity performance while maintaining the specification requirements of the WCDMA receiver.
