Betonite-polysulfone thin layer adsorbent for dye removal

Betonite-polysulfone thin layer adsorbent for dye removal / Norhayati Nordin
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Adsorption is the most common and broadly used method for water and wastewater treatment due to the economic process, ease of operation and efficient. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the performance of bentonite-polysulfone thin layer adsorbent for dye removal. There were a few of parameters that was tested for the adsorption performance which is bentonite-PSf ratio, initial concentration of dye solution, pH value, temperature and mixing speed. It was found that the suitable bentonite-PSf ratio is 0.5:0.5. The initial concentrations were varied for 50, 100, 150 and 200 mg/L. There are a few of pH values that were tested which are 3,5,7,9 and 11. While for the temperature, it was varied to 30, 40, 50 and 60oC. The differences of mixing speed which is 0, 120, 240 and 360 rpm did not give much affect to the adsorption performance. The percentage of MB removal can achieve up to 99% for each parameters. Equilibrium data were plotted using Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin isotherm models. Kinetic modelling was fitted only to the pseudo-second order equation. The finding acknowledged the potential of bentonite-polysulfone thin layer adsorbent as an adsorbent for future wastewater treatment technology.
