Behaviour of unplastisized polyvinyl chloride as retaining wall block in sand

Behaviour of unplastisized polyvinyl chloride as retaining wall block in sand / Mohamad Nazri Abdullah
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Malaysian citizen are increasing rapidly year by year. As the population growth, land use will increase significantly and there will be more civil engineering project will be carried out in hilly area. Method of installation retaining wall may be factor a factor of reducing installation time to control slope from collapse. This study presents the use of Unplastisized Polyvinyl Chloride (UPVC) tube to protect slope from collapsing. Two tests were carried out which are Compressive test and Direct Shear test. For compressive test, mean for maximum compressive strength of UPVC tube with height of 200mm, 250mm, and 300mm are 10.33kN, 14.79kN and 10.10kN respectively. UPVC with height 250mm was selected to test with sand as filled material. From the test, it shows that filled material plays an important role to maximize the compressive strength. Laboratory direct shear test is extensively used to determine the angle of friction and cohesion. This test conducted for sand only and stripped UPVC with sand. Small scale of load test was carried out to study the performance of UPVC tube when loading is applied on top of backfilled.
