BS EN 60544-1:1995 is a European standard that specifies the methods for measuring the performance of electrical energy meters. The standard applies to both electromechanical and electronic energy meters, which are used to measure the consumption of electrical energy in various applications, such as residential, commercial, and industrial settings. The standard provides guidance on the selection of test equipment and the measurement procedures for various performance characteristics, including accuracy, stability, and temperature dependence. It includes several test methods, such as the no-load test, the temperature rise test, and the creep test. The results of the tests can be used to determine the accuracy class of the energy meter, which is a measure of its performance under different load conditions. The standard also provides requirements for the labeling and documentation of energy meters, including information on their accuracy class and measurement capabilities. It is important to note that this standard has been superseded by the updated version, EN 50470-1:2006. This newer version includes additional requirements and updated test methods to reflect advances in technology and changes in industry practices.
