This standard covers a list of standard terms for parts and assemblies of mechanical structures for electronic equipment. They are common to various types of mechanical structures, but most of them are derived from IEC Publication 297-1, 297-2 and 297-3. Illustrations are added in the list of terms when appropriate to support correct term usage. Where a term is self-explanatory no definition is given, for instance "front panel". The same applies for terms already defined in IEC Publication 50.
